PFFW President Mahlon Mitchell?s Historic Bid for Lieutenant Governor Falls Short

PFFW President Mahlon Mitchell?s Historic Bid for Lieutenant Governor Falls Short

June 7, 2012 ? Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin President Mahlon Mitchell on Tuesday narrowly lost in his historic bid to become the state?s next lieutenant governor.

Mitchell received more than 1.1 million votes in the June 5 recall, but fell short by six percentage points to Lt. Governor Rebecca Kleefisch.

?Defeating an incumbent is always difficult, but with his incredible drive and hard work, Mahlon came close to an amazing victory,? says IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. ?I am so proud of all of our leadership and members in Wisconsin, who stood together against Scott Walker?s divide-and-conquer tactics.?

Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett lost in his attempt to unseat Governor Scott Walker, whose attacks on Wisconsin public employees set in motion the protests that led to recall elections last year and on Tuesday. Walker defeated Barrett by seven percentage points.

While Mitchell and Barrett lost, voters did remove one Senate Republican on Tuesday, handing control of the state Senate to Democrats. This effectively allows Democrats to block Walker?s legislative agenda.
