LIVERPOOL, England (AP) -Marcus Hahnemann became Everton's second American goalkeeper on Friday after signing a short-term deal to provide extra cover for Tim Howard.
The 39-year-old Hahnemann has been without a club since being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers at the end of last season.
Everton signed him until January to provide another goalkeeping option alongside regular starter Howard and backup Jan Mucha, a Slovakia international.
"We have only got two (goalkeepers) so I felt we needed someone before the window closed and I have been on the look out for a 'keeper," said Everton manager David Moyes. "(Hahnemann) is experienced and will give us that bit of extra cover we were after."
Hahnemann has played nine times for the United States but is a backup to the 32-year-old Howard with the national team.
