These time switches provide automatic control for electric water heaters. They provide to-the-minute accuracy in programming and time keeping. The time switches can be programmed for repeat daily scheduling, 5-day working week scheduling, weekend scheduling or any individual day scheduling. Timers can be scheduled for operation during the lowest time-of-day rates or to switch off the electric heater during period of utilities peak power usage. The time switches can be set to operate for up to 6 ON/OFF operations daily for a maximum of 42 ON/OFF operations weekly. Both models provide a convenient external override switch and LED load indicator for ease in scheduling hot water as required for extra hot water demands. The timers include a ?AA? alkaline battery carryover which protects both time keeping and program information for a minimum of 3 years.
Ever take one of those energy self-audits? Mine had high marks for the easy things- insulation, updated windows, weather stripping, etc. But my water heater- I cannot install the ?tankless?, because I have no chimney. It has always been electric, but keeping 55 gallons hot all 24 hours is not efficient. So I ordered the Intermatic, and once installed outside the breaker panel, found it to be as easy to operate as a setback thermostat.
You can set it to heat up prior to morning showers, then (on weekdays) turn the power off, and heat up again in time for evening meals, cleaning, etc. Weekends can be an entirely different schedule. There is even a ?shutoff? feature to bypass the schedule while you take vacation. Instructions are clear, and programmed from the front.
I feel this is saving money (and more still when we get Time-of-Day pricing). Easy to install.
Has timer settings for each day or the 5 day week with separate weekend settings which are what I use.
Can have several on/off setting on each of the days.
I set mine to turn off when I go to work and turn Intermatic EH40 on when I get back so I can shower then turn off before I go to bed and come on just before I get up.
The water does not cool much while it is off since I do not use it then. When it does turn on it does not take much time to get the water back to the right temp.
There is also a manual on/off button just in case.
